Alumni Spotlight: Alejandra Llanzea

Alejandra Llanzea of Mexico City is the TJGT’s featured alumni of the week. Llanzea was a regular champion at TJGT major events and well liked by her playing partners. The five-time Mexican junior national champion’s successful junior career turned into a dominant collegiate career and later a budding professional career.

After her days on the TJGT were completed, Llanzea accepted a scholarship to play at the University of Arizona. While at Arizona, Llanzea quickly established herself in the top five lineup and as a dignified team leader. She was chosen for PAC 10 academic and golf honors during her time in Arizona. Llanzea went on to pursue dreams of playing professionally. Those efforts have paid off.

The fiery competitor recently claimed her 2016 LPGA tour card along with nine other women. She was labeled as one of “….the most consistent players on Tour (Symetra) as she made 17 of 19 cuts adding five additional top-10 finishes including a T8 at the Symetra Tour Championship.”

Her biggest highlight of the season was her championship win at The Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic in South Carolina. Clinching this victory was the key event that helped her earn the coveted LPGA tour card. However, Llanzea was no stranger to LPGA competition. In fact, she competed in an impressive six LPGA tour events in Mexico during her junior career.

When recently interviewedby the LPGA about claiming her tour card, Llanzea said:

“It means a lot. I’m really excited and I can’t wait for what this new opportunity is going to bring. I’m really excited.”
