Alumni Spotlight: Lisa McCloskey

Lisa McCloskey, born in Bogota, Colombia and a native of Montgomery, Texas competed on the TJGT from a young age and blossomed into a stellar LPGA competitor. McCloskey was participating in TJGT events as young as the age of twelve. The Houston area was well aware of her rising talent and she became a TJGT veteran in no time.

During her high school career, McCloskey captured two individual class 4A titles and was named by the Houston Chronicle as the All-Greater Houston Golfer of the Year twice. She was named a  four time AJGA Rolex Junior All-American after more than a dozen AJGA top 10 finishes and two championship titles. She also claimed medalist honors at the 2008 U.S. Junior Girls golf championship.

McCloskey moved on from her junior golf career after accepting a scholarship to play to the golf at the University of Pepperdine. In her first season, she earned PING All-American honorable mention honors, broke NCAA scoring records was was named as the West Coast Conference (WCC) freshman of the year. In her second season at Pepperdine, she won two collegiate titles and was named the WCC player of the year.

After a successful stint at Pepperdine, McCloskey transferred to the University of Southern California. In the 2010-2011 season, McCloskey was ranked among the top five female collegiate golfers in the country. She earned NGCA All-American second team honors and All-Pac 10 first team honors. McCloskey suffered injuries during her junior season but still managed to help the team win the PAC-10 championship title that year. Only a preview of her success to come on the LPGA, she competed in the Kraft Nabisco Championship as an amateur in 2011 and also qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open.

To close her amateur career, McCloskey was selected in 2012 as a team member for the U.S. Curtis Cup team and the U.S. World Amateur team. The four time collegiate All-American went on the become the medalist at the USGA Public Links championship.

Her professional career began in 2013 as McCloskey began her rookie season on the LPGA. She competed in 20 events and made 14 cuts while raking in $123,886 in tour earnings. She recorded a career best 19th place finish at the 2013 Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
