Bronson Burgoon, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, is this week’s TJGT featured alumni. Before Burgoon was leading the Texas A&M Aggies to a national title in 2009, he was a frequent competitor on the Texas Junior Golf Tour’s Houston circuit. He also made several appearances at American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Invitationals and regular series events.
Burgoon’s powerful swing and consistent play as a junior golfer earned him a spot on the coveted Texas A&M men’s golf team. Texas A&M held a special place in Burgoon’s memory as he grew up watching his older brother Brandon play golf for the university.
In 2009, Burgoon completed the shot that would mark Aggie golf history for years to come. On the 18th hole he hit his approach shot which finished only inches from the hole and made for an easy tap-in win.
In a 2015 interview with PGATOUR.com, Burgoon recalled that very moment, “Yeah, obviously, hitting the shot to win the national championship is by far and away the most special shot I’ll ever hit in my life, probably. And the only reason why is because our team was so close and such a good group of guys, so to win it with them … it wasn’t about me at all. It was about the team, and that was the coolest part.”
Burgoon turned professional in 2010 and went on to compete in several Web.com tour events as well as select PGA tour events. His game matured throughout the years and in 2015, he “finished the Web.com Tour season having played in all 25 tournaments. Had two runners-up, six top-10s and nine top-25s. Made 18 cuts. Was 15th in the final priority-ranking order.”
2016 has proved to be Burgoon’s most successful year to date after leaving the amateur circuit. He amassed $325,263 in career PGA tour earnings (all in the 2016 season) and finished in the top 25 in four PGA tour events. His best finish was 14th place at the 2016 Honda Classic.
Burgoon will marry his college sweetheart Katy Eudaly on April 2, 2016. The pair met while both attending Texas A&M. Eudaly was an Aggie track and field student-athlete.
