Alumni Spotlight: Andrew Dresser

Andrew Dresser, a native of the Carrollton, Texas, grew up playing golf at a young age. His hard work and long hours of practice as a junior led him to take a place on Creekview Carrollton high school’s golf team. Not only was Andrew an incredible golfer, he had the brains to match.

During his high school career, Dresser was voted a three-time most valuable player for the Creekview H.S. boys team. He was named to the All-District 6-5A team three times and twice qualified for the regional competition. Dresser was among the Top 100 ranked Junior Golfers nationally when he began to be recruited for collegiate competition. Dresser competed in several AJGA and TJGT events, as well as became a semi-finalist in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Dresser was an inductee into the National Honor Society and named to the Who’s Who Among American high school students. It was no surprise when Dresser accepted scholarship to compete for the Texas Tech Men’s golf team coming out of high school.

Dresser had quite the start at Texas Tech as a freshman. He was the lone freshman on the squad to compete in all of the team’s tournaments. His best finish during his starting season was a second place tie at the UTSA Invitational. However, Dresser was named to the Big 12 All-Conference team after a 10th place finish in the conference championships. After this he went on to lead the team in the Regional tournament with a career-best of 211. He missed the individual cut by one heartbreaking stroke for the NCAA National Championships during his starting year.

Dresser became a staple in the Texas Tech lineup with impressive top five and top ten finishes peppered throughout his sophomore and junior year of competition. At the Baylor Invitational in 2004, he posted scores of 68, 72, 69 to finish in second place as Tech’s top finisher for the event.

In his senior year, Dresser racked up the most accolades. He completed the Big 12 Men’s championship as Tech’s top finisher, garnered six top 5 finishes for the season and was named a finalist for the 2006 Byron Nelson award presented by Cleveland golf.

After college, Dresser competed on the Adams Tour and garnered three top ten finishes and two top five finishes, including a second place finish in the Jamie Hilton Memorial Golf Classic. He also competed in select PGA tour tournaments and even qualified for the U.S. Men’s Open. Dresser continues to contribute to junior golf and has served on the TJGT staff at numerous summer events.
