Plano, Texas — June 28, 2016 – 104 players started on day one of the second annual TJGT Major Championship at Gleneagles Country Club. GlenEagles is nestled in the beautiful DFW city of Plano. Numerous PGA professionals have come to train at the club’s world class facilities. Chris Como, who is Tiger Woods’ swing coach has worked with numerous TJGT alumni from the club’s facilities.
Round One Highlights:
The first day consisted of 36 holes of competition which began at 9 a.m. CST. However the second round was cancelled in the afternoon due to inclement weather in the metroplex. In the Boys 11-18 division, eight players finished the day at even par or better. Three players were at the top of the leaderboard with consecutive scores of 70 (-2 under). Samuel Kim (2019) of Carrollton, Texas, Shayler Dance (2018) of Dallas, Texas and Alejandro Gutierrez (2019) of Monterrey, Mexico. In the girls division, Aysis Azarcon (2019) of Grand Prairie, Texas and Bohyun Park (2021) of Carrollton, Texas also posted consecutive rounds of 70 (-2 under), which gave them a three shot lead over Sydney Garber (2017) of Fate, Texas who posted a 73 (+1 over).
Round Two Highlights:
In the Girls 11-18 division, Bohyun Park (2021) captured the championship by posting an impressive final round of 72, giving her a three shot victory over Aysis Azarcon (2019) who finished at 145 after her final round of 75. In the Boys 11-18 Division, there was a three way tie for first between Kevin Graves (2017) of Plano Texas who fired a final of 70 (-2 under), Samuel Kim (2019) and Shayler Dance (2018). The three competitors headed out for an exciting sudden death playoff. All three young men birdied the first playoff hole to continue on to the second playoff hole. On the second hole, Graves bested Dance and Kim by making an incredible birdie out of the bunker to win the title and become the TJGT Major Champion.
