Post Report: Brackenridge Park Jr. Championship QS+

San Antonio, Texas — September 4, 2016 – The TJGT has officially kicked off the Fall 2016 season. Brackenridge Park Golf Course welcomed 49 players on the first day to show their skills over Labor Day weekend. The weather was sunny and humid, true to Texas nature. Coaches representing Texas A&M University Kingsville and the University of Texas – San Antonio both made appearances scouting for potential collegiate golf recruits.

The opening round had two players post under par rounds. John Keefer of San Antonio, Tx posted a 69 (-2 under) to hold a one shot lead over Andres Acevedo of San Antonio, Tx in the Boys 15-18 division. On the Girls side, Camryn Carreon of San Antonio, Tx opened with a 75 for a three shot lead over Kelli Dugan from San Antonio, Tx. In the younger boys 11-14 division Zack Heffernan of Fair Oaks, Tx posted a 78 to lead the by two strokes. Lauren Nguyenphu was leading by nine strokes in the girls 11-14 division after posting an 83.

Day two tee times started at 12:00 pm, just after a short rainstorm finished peppering the course in the morning. Jacob King posted a final round of 78 and won the 11-14 Boys Division by one stroke. Lauren Nguyenphu kept her lead and posted a final round of 82 to win the girls 11-14 division by 21 strokes. Camryn Carreon posted another consecutive 75 to win first place in the girl’s 11-18 division. Andres Acevedo fired a red hot round of 66 to hold off John Keefer by three strokes in the boy’s 15-18 division.
