Oklahoma Leads Day One of Red River Challenge: 11-3

The Red River Challenge kicked off yesterday in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Team Texas and Team Oklahoma were both eager to make their mark and gain ground in the first day of competition. Oklahoma surprised the junior golf world last year and took the championship from the consecutive champions of team Texas. Oklahoma is looking to capitalize on that victory again and the Texans are attempting to claim the trophy back for the Lone Star State.

The first day of competition saw cool and overcast skies. Oklahoma came out swinging and fighting as they claimed an eight point lead over team Texas. The current point total is 11-3.

Players and parents alike enjoyed a dinner with all the Southern trimmings following play at Dornick Hills Country Club. Lanny Bassham, a former Olympic Gold Medalist, addressed the crowd following the dinner and offered his advice for creating a killer mental game plan. Bassham is the creator of Mental Management and has worked with numerous successful athletes looking to improve their mental stamina.

The final round is expected to be exciting and played under perfect conditions. Oklahoma has a strong lead going into the final round, however nothing is for certain when it comes to the game of golf. Texas will have to fight hard in order to make a comeback. The winning team will need to show precision short game skills as the greens at Dornick Hills are infamously difficult. Who will it be? Team Texas? Or Team Oklahoma again?

Stay tuned for all the final round action.
