The Red River Challenge 2015 climaxed today at the scenic Dornick Hills Country Club, the home of past PGA championship tournaments and numerous NCAA events. Team Oklahoma had a strong performance for the second year in a row, claiming the team title with 23 points to Texas 5 points in near perfect weather.
The Oklahoma team clinched all five of the top boys spots and all three of the girls spots in the championship. Team Texas struggled to make ground on the second day of play, but vows to re-evaluate and come back even stronger in 2016.
The comradery on each team was a pleasure to watch for parents and spectators alike. The competitors were dressed to a tee in their respective colors and some even painted their faces in a festive display of support for their team.
As for the individual competitions, Laken Hinton clinched the Boys title with a stellar final round of 67 (-3 under). Yujeong Son captured the girls title with a final round of 69 (-1 under). This week’s win will comprise her second consecutive Red River Challenge victory.
Notably, Nick Baxter and Mikayla Bardwell both scored ACEs during the final round of competition on holes four and eight respectively. Congratulations from the TJGT!
