Another former TJGT player earned her LPGA tour card this past season and that player is Casey Grice.
According to her website, Grice started playing golf at age twelve because she decided that she would rather play in the tournaments themselves than simply travel and watch her brother play.
Grice is a 5A Texas State champion, multiple TJGT victor, and AJGA Canon Cup participant. During the close of her junior golf career she earned a scholarship to become a North Carolina –Chapel Hill Tar Heel.
In Grice’s three year stint at NC Chapel Hill, she studied exercise and sports science. She was a Golfweek All-American and member of the ACC Championship women’s team before gradating in 2013. She then set her sights on earning her LPGA tour card.
“Ten days after earning my degree at UNC I jumped on a plane to Rancho Mirage, CA for the first round of LPGA Qualifying School,” said Grice on her website.
Grice qualified for full status on the Symetra tour in 2013 after making it to the third and final stage of her first attempt at Q-school. She competed in all 20 tournaments and even earned the inaugural ANNIKA Academy Elite Athlete Award. After closing the 2013 season in the 24th spot on the Symetra tour money list, Grice earned her spot into the final stage of Q-school in 2014. During that final stage, she claimed conditional status on the LPGA.
It was not until 2015, that Grice accomplished one of her greatest goals: an LPGA tour card. Her 9th place finish on the money list earned her the coveted tour card.
In a blog post about her achieving her LPGA dream. Grice said:
“Success means more to me than just putting up a good golf score. It’s about the people I have had the opportunity to meet and grow with along this wonderful journey. Its about sharing the good news of Christ and striving to be better today than you were yesterday. It’s about growing this amazing game that has already given me so much. I am so thankful to everyone that has helped me along this journey and believed in this same dream of playing on the LPGA.”
