Alumni Spotlight: Abraham Ancer

Abraham Ancer, a former TJGT veteran, was born in McAllen, Texas and raised in Reynosa, Mexico. Ancer has experienced tremendous success since departing the junior circuit. He took the junior college route first and competed for Odessa Junior College (OJC) before playing on the NCAA Division I level

Ancer was named a first team all American at OJC and placed second at the National Junior College Golf Championship. After a successful stint at OJC, he took his skills to the next level and signed with the University of Oklahoma. Ancer came out swinging for his debut on the University of Oklahoma’s golf team. He collected two titles in his first year of competition: the 2011 Desert Shootout and 2011 NCAA East-VA Tech Regional. Ancer claimed the sixth lowest scoring average in Oklahoma history with a 72.03.

Shortly after graduating the University of Oklahoma, Ancer turned professional. In December of 2014, he tied for 35th place at the Web.com Tour Qualifying School final stage. This finish earned him a spot on the Web.com tour in 2015. Ancer continued to perform consistently. He captured a runner-up finish at the Brasil Champions in March and in July took home the trophy  at the 2015 Nova Scotia Open. He placed 11th on the money list and earned his PGA tour card for the 2016 competitive season.
