[OCT 24-25 | BURLESON, TX] For Wichita, Kan., junior Kate Tilma, Southern Oaks Golf course comes with fond memories. Back in May, Tilma teed it up at Southern Oaks in the Fort Worth Summer Kickoff, firing a two-day total of 3-under-par to capture the title in only her second event on the TJGT. Less than six months later, Tilma was back in southern Fort Worth, and she picked up right where she left off in May, putting the pedal to the metal once again at Southern Oaks – this time at the 2020 LoneStar Girls Invitational.
Tilma opened the tournament with an even-par 72, standing 1-shot behind Round 1 leader Maddi Kamas, but in round 2, Tilma turned it on. Playing in the penultimate group on the final day, Tilma made birdies on holes no. 3 and 9 to tie for the lead heading into the back 9, and when she made her fourth birdie of the day on the par-4 13th hole, she had taken the solo lead by 3 shots.
Five straight pars to finish her round put Tilma at 3-under-par for the day and 3-under for the tournament, good enough for a three-shot victory and her continued dominance at Southern Oaks GC. Fulshear’s Tristan Gabbard, who finished runner-up to Tilma in May, once again finished runner up, also firing a final-round 69 (-3). Austin’s Farah O’Keefe finished in solo third, and Kamas, 2019 champion Avery Zweig, Malisone Chanthapanya and Alexa Saldana finished in T-5.
