
The 2015 TJGT Tour Championship was played February 7th-8th, 2015 at the incredible Horseshoe Bay Resort in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Over 200 players from Texas, Oklahoma, Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kansas teed it up in front of coaches from Incarnate Word, OU, Abilene Christian, DBU, UCO, and Texas A&M. The Boys 15-18 played 6,824 yards; the Boys 11-14 played 6,294 yards; and all Girls 11-18 played 5,740 yards in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event. Saturday’s banquet was filled with good times with food and fellowship and players were honored for their accomplishments over the past season. Also during the night the TJGT had the opportunity to recognize one of the state’s biggest ambassadors to junior golf. Coach Lynn Monzingo has been a figurehead in junior and college golf for many years and has touched the lives of countless families and the TJGT wants to say thanks for all he has done to help grow the game and develop young men and women.
Event Recap:
Day 1 started off chilly with temperatures in the high 30’s but with little wind the course was at the mercy of the players. In the Boys 15-18 14 players posted rounds of even par or better. Two players broke into the 60’s as Garett Reband (Cleburne, TX) led the field with a 68 (31 on the backside) behind 4 birdies and an eagle. Right on his heels was Tobin Niblett (Austin, TX) who also used 4 birdies and an eagle to card a 69 on the day. In the Girls 11-18 Chandler Rosholt from Cedar Park finished her 1st round with a two-over 74 to give her the lead. Only one-shot back is Kenzie Wright from Fort Worth who shot a 76 in her opening round. In a three way tie for 3rd was Hailey Jones from Dallas, Lauren Comegys from Lakeway and Macy Fox from Marble Falls all shooting 77. In the Boys 11-14 Hayes Haydon (Austin) held the lead with a score of 77. John Keefer (San Antonio) put a 78 on the board and sits in 2nd. Both Jackson Davenport from Austin and Trip Carter from Dallas are tied for 3rd after day 1. With low numbers to be had on the golf course players went to bed after the first round knowing they were going to have to go low in round two to make a move.
Day 2 saw absolutely perfect golf conditions with temperature in the 60’s and just a hint of a breeze. Plenty of red numbers were had in the Boys 15-18 as nine rounds were posted under par. Low for the day was Zachary Campbell (Benbrook, TX) who fired a 67 to jump into a tie for 3rd place. The champion Garett Reband (Cleburne, TX) again posted an under par round of 70 to finish the tournament at six-under par and take home the full exemption into the AJGA. In the Girls 11-18 Kennedy Swann came out on fire in round 2. She put up a 69 to jump to the top of the leaderboard to finish the weekend with a 148 total and claim 1st place. Kenzie Wright shot a 74 in her second round to finish in 2nd place. Chandler Rosholt posted a 77 and finished 3rd. Grace Do made a hole-in-one on hole 12. In the Boys 11-14 John Keefer did some scoreboard claiming in round 2. Keefer shot a 74 in his 2nd round to claim 1st place. Hayes Haydon shot a 78 finishing in 2nd place. Jackson Davenport also finished with a 78 to finish in 3rd place. Eli Tran hole-in-one on hole 3.
