OJGT Wins Red River Challenge: College Coaches Flock to Dornick Hills

The 10th Annual TJGT/OJGT Red River Challenge lived up to its billing with a fantastic finish with the OJGT taking home the title 17-11. The 112 players from five states and Mexico in the field battled each other and the 25mph winds on day two on a historic collegiate venue in front of 20+ college coaches from schools like Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Wichita St, Baylor, Arkansas Little Rock, Rogers State, Oral Roberts, and North Texas. The course was in the best shape it has been in during the 10-year history of the event with the greens rolling super fast, and with 25mph winds the course challenging for the entire field. The competition in this event is second to none with Boys individual champion Mason Overstreet and 2nd place finisher Fisher Vollendorf having already verbally committed to the University of Arkansas, and 4th place finisher Garrett Reband verbally committing to OU. When Overstreet completed his stellar final round 66, there were over 300 people gathered around the 18 green including numerous media representatives. On the Girls side, 2nd & 3rd place finishers Christian Curnutte and Brinn Fariss have both verbally committed to DBU. One of the highlights of the event was the Saturday night banquet with over 250 players and parents in attendance. Baylor Head Coach Mike McGraw gave an incredible talk that highlighted all the great qualities of many of the incredible players he has coached over the years such as Rickie Fowler.  McGraw said, “Rickie’s number one attribute was to have enthusiasm, and enthusiasm in every aspect of life including golf trumps everything and that is the #1 thing Rickie has always displayed for everything he does.  That’s why so many people and sponsors are attracted to him.”
