Post Report: 2016 Bridlewood Junior Championship

Bridlewood Golf Club hosted the 2016 Bridlewood Junior Championship and provided and great venue for the young TJGT competitors. The golf course has recently undergone renovations, including brand new greenside bunkers. Day one started early at 7:30 am and made for a rough start with rain and cool winds battering the course. As the day went on the juniors were able to overcome the tough conditions. Day two provided picture perfect weather and prime scoring conditions with temperatures in the low 70’s. Juniors from all over the USA and even Thailand competed in this unique championship. Collegiate coaches in attendance represented the following institutions: University of Oregon, Midwestern University, Cameron University and Austin Peavy State University

BOYS 15-18 Division

1. Max Pius (2017) – Coppell, Tx – 70, 73

2. Kolton Baber (2018) – Devola, Ok – 74, 72

T3. Tucker Norris (2016) – Lamesa, Tx – 75, 72

T3. Francisco Osio (2018) – Fort Worth, Tx – 76, 71

Max Pius (2017) from Coppell completed his first day with a 2 under 70, giving him the overnight lead. Drake Kube (2017) from Frisco and Kolton Baber (2018) from Devola OK, both shot scores of 74 to place them in 2nd place after their round 1. Also sitting in a two way tie 4th place after the first day was Carson Horak (2017) from Wylie and Tucker Norris (2016) from Lamesa, Tx.

Pius did not let the overnight lead make him too comfortable. In round two, Pius fired a +1 over 73, to give him a two day total of 143 and the first place trophy. In second place was Baber who posted even par 72 in his final round. Norris climbed the leaderboard in the final round and ended in a tie for third place with Francisco Osio (2018) from Fort Worth, Tx. Norris posted a 72 in the final round and Osio posted a 71. Norris bested Osio in the two hole sudden death playoff for third place.


BOYS 11-14 Division

1. Evan Paquette (2020) – Grapevine, Tx – 82, 73

2. Jake Wilkinson (2020) – Plano, Tx – 81, 77

T3. Benjamin Ligons (2019) – McKinney, Tx – 84, 77

T3. Joe Magnani (2022) – Irving, Tx – 77, 84

Joe Magnani (2022) from Irving, Tx had a one shot lead after day one with a score of 77. Jack McClung (2020) from Keller, Tx was two shots from the lead second place after round one after posting a 79. Jake Wilkinson (2020) from Plano, Tx finished his first round with an 81 to fall into third place.

Evan Paquette (2020) from Grapevine, TX made a big run in the final round and posted a +1 over 73 to clinch first place. Wilkinson posted a 77 in his final round to claim second place. There was a two way tie for third place between with Benjamin Ligons (2019) from McKinney, Tx and Magani. Ligons posted scores of 84 and 77 over the two days and Magnani who posted a final round of 84.

GIRLS 15-18 Division

1. Macy Holliday (2017) – Dallas, Tx – 74, 66

2. Rebecca Reed (2019) – Midland, Tx – 75, 76

3. Libby Winans (2018) – Richardson, Tx – 80, 72

Alexandria Bennett (2018) from Plano, Tx and Macy Holiday (2017) from Dallas, Tx both posted scores of 74 on day one to enter a tie for first place. In a tie for 3rd place was Sydney Garber (2017) from Fate, TX and Rebecca Reed (2019) from Midland, Tx. Both girls finished round one with a score of 75.

Holliday, a verbal commit to Ole Miss University  took advantage of a great day on the golf course and post a bogey free round six under 66! Holiday’s six birdies cleared her path to a first place finish with a 140 two-day total. Finishing in second place was Reed with a final round of 75 and two-day total of 151. The third place finisher was Libby Winans (2018) from Richardson, Tx who jumped up the leaderboard with her second round of even par 72.


GIRLS 11-14 Division

1. Mackenzie Moore (2021) –  Trophy Club, Tx – 75, 77

2. Summer Lee (2024) – Plano, Tx – 84, 74

T3. Hannah Kerekes (2020) – Westlake, Tx – 84, 75

T3. Meagan Winans (2021) – Richardson, Tx – 78, 81

Mackenzie Moore (2021) from Trophy Club, Tx held the lead after day one with a 77. Meagan Winans (2021) from Richardson, Tx was three shots back in second place with a 78. Summer Lee (2024) from Plano, Tx was in third place after her first round of 84.

Moore went wire-to-wire for the win in the second round and posted a score of 76, giving her a two-day total of 151. In second place was Lee who had strong final round and posted a 74. Finishing in a tie for third place was Winans who finished her day with an 81 and Hannah Kerekes (2020) from Westlake, Tx who posted scores of 84 and 75. Kerekes bested Winans in a two hole sudden death playoff for third place.
