Waco, Texas — October 8th & 9th, 2016 – The windy city of Waco, Tx opened its doors to the junior golf world once again this past weekend as Cottonwood Creek Golf Club hosted the TJGT for the annual Cottonwood Creek Junior Championship. This event serves as a preview of Texas High School golf’s Spring Region II-6A tournament, which will be held at the same venue. Juniors who were eager to test their skills under competition beforehand were given the perfect opportunity to do so. The event hosted players from all over the state of Texas and Louisiana.
In Girls 15-18 division, Amelia McKee (2018) of Spring, Tx won the top honors with scores of 73-71 (144). McKee also bested Ellie Roth in a two hole playoff to take home the overall Girls champion title and AJGA PBE entry award. Hana Bowman (2018) of The Woodlands, Tx posted scores of 76-75 (151) to place second and Lindsey Howerton (2020) of San Antonio, Tx placed third with scores of 75-77 (152). *Photo of Winners Above*
In Boys 15-18 division, Senior Brody Phillips (2017) of Corsicana, Tx claimed the first place trophy with scores of 72-73 (145). He was able to hold off late charges by Grayson Gilbert (2018) of Monroe, La and Andrew Rodriguez of The Woodlands, Tx (2019), who tied with a two-day total of 149. Gilbert bested Rodriguez in a scorecard playoff to claim second place, while Rodriguez placed third.
The Girls 11-14 division was dominated by Elie Roth of Plano, Tx with scores of 71-73 (144), which placed her in a tie for Girls Overall 1st place. She lost in a two hole playoff to eventual winner Amelia McKee. Jacklyn Gonzalez (2022) of Fair Oaks Ranch, Tx claimed second place with scores of 82-88 (170) and Delaney Martin (2020) of Boerne, Tx placed third with scores of 89-86 (175).
