Post Report: Texas Junior Masters and IMG Junior Academy World

San Antonio, Texas — May 31, 2016 –Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Tx once again welcomed the TJGT to its annual summer kickoff tournament as it played host to the IMG Junior Academy World Qualifier.

One hundred and fifteen players teed it up on day one with hopes of conquering the old, traditional-styled golf course. Twelve players posted rounds of even par or better. Kolton Baber (2018) of Devol, OK and Robert Lahrman (2019) of Dallas, TX led the boys division after day one with rounds of 67 (-4 under). The top nine boys all posted outstanding rounds in red numbers. On the girls side Kennedy Swann (2017) of Austin, TX held the lead after day one an equally impressive score of 67 (-4 under).

Day two started with an hour delay in play as a noisy thunderstorm cell moved through San Antonio containing copious amounts of lightning and thunder. Once the players returned to the course again, conditions were perfect minus a small lighting break later in the afternoon. Twenty five players scored rounds of par or better. Rebecca Reed (2019) of Midland, TX posted an outstanding round of 67 to jump back in to the mix for the overall championship heading into final round. On the boys side Thomas Bockholt (2019) of Austin, TX, Matthew Denton (2019) of Austin, TX and Holden Wisener (2019) of Dallas, TX all posted rounds of 68 to boost their chances for a good finish on Day three.

The early morning of day three started off much like day two with a thunderstorm line moving through the area around 8 a.m. causing a two hour delay for the start of play. The course drained well and the sun eventually came out for the players, much to their relief. Starting the morning off in the lead was Kolton Baber and Reid Davenport of Austin, TX both at -4 under for the tournament. Davenport pulled through in the end firing his tournament low of 66. The girls division came down to an intense sudden death playoff between Kennedy Swann and Rebecca Reed. Reed bested the veteran in the playoff and claimed the first place trophy with a 208 three day total.
