Tyler, Texas — May 8, 2016 – Eagles Bluff Country Club once again hosted the 2016 Tyler Rose Championship. This championship in particular is one that brings a lot of excitement and fresh faces being the TJGT’s first major of the year. As always the golf course and the Eagles Bluff staff were first class. Day one boasted perfect spring golf weather and day two was a little overcast with a slight breeze making the golf course a little harsher for scoring conditions. Another highlight of the two day event was over the course of two rounds the average pace of play was four hours and fifteen minutes. A TJGT record!
Boys Division
Chad Sewell (2017) of Conroe, Tx and Andrew Lindberg (2017) of Coppell, Tx both took advantage of the perfect scoring conditions on the first day. Both players finished at -2 under 69 and tied for first place after day one. Jake Holbrook (2019) from Granbury, Tx and Zach Stayton (2016) from Kingwood, Tx both posted scores of even par 71 and were in a virtual tie for third place. There was also a three way tie at 72 after round one for fifth place, including Mathew Denton (2019) of Austin, Tx, Will Jacobe (2019) of Houston, Tx, and Nathan Petronizo (2020) of Round Rock, Tx.
For the third year in a row, Chad Sewell from Conroe and a University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) commit claimed the Tyler Rose Championship. Sewell finished round two with a 70 and finished the two days with a 139 total. Matthew Denton moved up the leaderboard in round two posting a second round of 70 and took second place. Finishing in third place was Quinn Edwards (2017) of Round Rock, Tx with a second round score of 71.

Girls Division
Melena Barrentos (2021) of Plano, Tx posted a +1 over 72 to take the lead after round one. Hana Bowman (2018) of The Woodlands, Tx fished her first round with a 74 placing her in second after her first day. Madigan Murray (2017) of McKinney, Tx posted a 75 to sit in third place after the opening round.
Ava Schwienteck (2017) of Magnolia, Tx along with Young Shin Kim (2017) of Austin, Tx took advantage of Sunday’s final round as their moving day. Ava Schwienteck improved her round one score of 78 by 5 strokes and posted a 73 in the final round to place her in a tie for 1st place with Young Shin Kim. Kim had posted a 76 in round one and then followed it up with a 75 in the final round to grab a share of the lead. Kim took home the first place trophy after an exciting sudden death playoff consisting of two holes against Schwienteck.
Gabbie Bentancourt (2021) of Frisco, Tx also posted a solid final round score of 75 placing her in a tie for third place with Melena Barrientos. Barrientos finished her final round with an 81. After another exciting sudden death playoff, Barrientos bested Bentancourt in a playoff for third place. Bowman claimed fifth place to round out the top five in the Girls Division.
