The Texas A&M Traditions, played host to 102 of the best high school golfers in the country this past weekend. The venue has seen numerous prestigious events in the course of it’s history. The club is home to the 2009 NCAA Men’s National Champions, host site of the 2011 NCAA Women’s National Championship, upcoming host of the 2016 NCAA Women’s Regional Golf Championship and the Aggie Men’s Invitational. The juniors, parents, spectators, coaches and TJGT staff were treated to some weather challenges on the first day, yet beautiful weather for the final round.
The players who participated in the event were treated to a fantastic UnderArmour© Custom Shirt and tee-shirt and a dozen Titleist Balls. After the first day tee-times were delayed for an 11 am shotgun, the weather conditions improved steadily, making for a beautiful weekend of great golf.
The superb course conditions allowed many players attack the golf course and post solid scores. Sub par rounds were posted by a plethora of players, including Scott Roden’s opening-day 68. Jacob Slay, Junior Hernandez and Riley Kovach also shot sub-par 71 on the first day. On day-two, Michael Rome, Dawson Dally shot 2-unders 70s, while Ethan Edsell and Chad Sewell shot one-under 71s. Overall, low scores prevailed, despite the soggy course and the usual challenges of the Traditions course.
Scott Roden’s first day lead was enough to hold off the competition. Roden finished with a 140 total (68-72) Michael Rome played consistent golf, 142 (72-70) to take second place, while Ethan Edsall captured a playoff victory from Dawson Dally for 3rd place. Edsall had rounds of 73 and 71 (144).
The girls field was conquered by Valeria Patino with rounds of 73-76 (149). Taking second place was Mikayla Bardwell with rounds of 73-78 (151), while Rebecca Reed won third place in a playoff over Brett Permann with rounds of 79-74 (153).
Special thanks to the Traditions staff for hosting a great event. The TJGT could not have asked for a better facility, and staff to host our annual Spring Invite. Thanks to the team at Traditions Club.
