Report: Waterchase Junior Championship

Fort Worth, Texas – March 16, 2016 – Round one of the Waterchase Jr. Championship consisted of 65 players across four divisions, all teeing it up in hopes of capturing the coveted tournament title. With near perfect, spring Texas weather, scoring conditions were more than ideal. In the boys 15-18 division, Isiah Henderson set the pace with a blazing 68 took a commanding six shot lead into the final round. After the round Isiah said, “I really just played steady and solid throughout the day.”

In the Boys 11-14 age division, Logan Johnson of Trophy Club, Tx, fired a solid first round 78. After the round, Johnson felt like he “left a few shots out there”, and even though he was the only player in his division, he was motivated to put it all together, and fire a great final round.

In the girls divisions, it was jam packed at the top of the leaderboard. In the 11-14 division, all the way from the Texas Panhandle, Alexis Escobedo, fired an opening round 80, which gave her a 2 shot lead heading into the final round. Her two shot lead was over, Grapevine’s Gabriella Tomanka, who was hot on her heels with an opening round of 82.

In the Girls 15-18 division, Jasmine Zhang was the only player who managed to shoot an opening round in the 70s. Her first round 78 gave her a 3 shot lead over Launa Wilson as the girls headed into the final round. With the girls tight at the top, the final round was sure to be exciting.

Day Two:

The final round of the Waterchase Jr Championship did not disappoint. Isiah Henderson in the boys 15-18 division, closed out the field with a final round 77, one over par total for the two rounds. Isiah beat his competitiors by a 2 shot margin. With this win, Isiah will earn four AJGA PBE Stars. There was a playoff in the girls 15-18 division between, Launa Wilson and Jasmine Zhang. Jasmine Zhang was victorious as she managed to birdie the first playoff hole to secure the victory. In the younger girls division, Alexis Escobedo from Amarillo, Tx captured the crown. She fired a final round 84 to win the title outright by 2 shots over Gabriella Tomanka, who finished alone in second place. Logan Johnson was crowned the boys 11-14 champion with his final round 82. Even though Logan was the only player in this division, he battle tough and was a well deserving champion.
