The TJGT River Ridge I-10 Championship was played December 13th-14th, 2014 at River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy, TX. Players from Texas and Louisiana teed in up in front of coaches from St. Thomas University-Houston in mild and breezy weather in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.

The gem of Sealy, Texas again hosted the TJGT’s I-10 Jr. Championship. If you haven’t played this course, what are you waiting for, it’s one of the best 27 hole layouts you will ever find in the country. In addition, they offer the best smoked brisket sandwiches and a chicken salad sandwich that has no peer.
The course was in near perfect condition as the Girls field found the leaders all scoring in the 70’s both days. Local star Katy Rutherford earned 1st place by four strokes over improving Orange, TX star Lauren Cox. Maggie Cowart of Austin Westlake made the trek to Sealy to earn 3rd place honors.
James Strickland cruised to a victory in the Boys 11-14 division as the lone competitor, while older brother Terry managed earn 3rd place in the Boys 15-18. Riley Griffin and Brandon Flemming required extra holes to determine the overall victor. Riley sealed the deal with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Players from Texas and Colorado battled it out with the Boys 15-18 playing 6,895 yards; the Boys 11-14 playing 6,479 yards; and all Girls 11-18 playing 5,572 yards in this 36-hole, nationally-ranked event.

BOYS 15-18
DAY 1:Kyle Cox from Carrolton set the tone early in round 1 with a solid round of 2-over 74. This gave him a 3-shot lead over Carson Horak from Wylie and Clay Lankford from Amarillo. Both Horak and Lankford were in a tie for 2nd place after posting scores of 77.
DAY 2: Kyle Cox did not let off the gas in round 2. Kyle finished his 2nd round with a 1-under 71 giving him a 9-shot cushion between him and 2nd place. Clay Lankford stayed consistent with another 77 to give him 2nd place. Forrest Park was able to claim 3rd place with his 2-day total of 155.
BOYS 11-14
DAY 1: Phillip Choi from Corinth shot the low round of the day with a even par 72 in round 1. This is gave him the overnight lead by 2 shots. Joseph Jones from Flower Mound was 2 shots off the lead with a 74 placing him in 2nd after his first day. Ethan Shaff from Plano was in 3rd after day 1 with a 79.
DAY 2: Phillip Choi and Joseph Jones both had a great day battling it out for 1st. Philip closed his round with a 79 and Joseph shot a 77, placing them in a tie for 1st place. Joseph Jones won the play off on the 2nd playoff hole. Ethan Shaff from Plano was able to hold on and finished in 3rd place.
GIRLS 15-18
DAY 1: Ryan Pate from Midland was in the lead for the older girls after round 1. Pate shot a 81 giving her a 1-shot lead over Emily Tasker. Tasker from Flower Mound was in 2nd place after her first round with an 82. Sydney Roberts from Brownwood sits in 3rd after her 84.
DAY 2: Emily Tasker used day 2 as moving day and claimed the top place on the leaderboard with her score of 83 to claim 1st place for the weekend. Sydney Roberts was able to hold on and clinch 2nd place with her round 2 score of 85. Ryan Pate finished her day with a 91 and finished 3rd.
GIRLS 11-14
DAY 1: Libby Winans from Richardson had a great round 1 with a 2-over 74. Still in the hunt and only two from the lead was Hailey Jones. Hailey finished her day with a 76. Gabri Kim from Frisco was in 3rd with a round 1 of 80.
DAY 2: Hailey Jones had no problems holding on to her overnight lead. In round 2 she fired a 76 to clinch 1st place. Libby Winans finished with an 82 to claim 2nd place. Gabri Kim also shot a 82 to finish 3rd place.
