The TJGT Sky Creek Ranch Winter Classic was played December 20th-21st, 2014 at Sky Creek Ranch golf club in Keller, Texas. Players from Arkansas and Texas teed it up in chilly, misty conditions with the Boys 15-18 playing 6,985 yards; the Boys 11-14 playing 6,458 yards; and all Girls 11-18 playing 5,520 yards in this 36-hole nationally-ranked event. UTSA had coaches on-hand scouting the field.
Event Recap:
BOYS 15-18
DAY 1: Jackson Markham from Westlake shot out to a two-shot lead after a cold a misty round 1. Jackson was able to post a level par 72 to hold down the top spot after the first 18. John Keefer from San Antonio had his short game dialed in and shot a 74 putting him in 2nd after round 1. Tommy Parker from Argyle was able to keep it close, only 3 shots off the lead with a 75 after day 1.
DAY 2: Jackson showed his consistency this weekend, putting up a 73 in round 2 to claim 1st place honors. Tommy Parker from Argyle and Gibson Terry from Haslet both finished the two rounds with a total of 155 and in a tie for 2nd. Gibson drained a 20ft birdie on the 1st playoff hole to claim 2nd and Tommy takes home 3rd place for the weekend.
BOYS 11-14
DAY 1: Eli Tran from Lubbock had 2 birdies in his opening round to help him finish with a 84 and 1st place after round 1. In 2nd place was Robert Quintana from Allen with a 93
DAY 2: Eli Tran finished his 2nd round with a 82 giving him 1st place at Sky Creek. Robert shot a 90 in his 2nd round for 2nd place.
GIRLS 15-18
DAY 1: Kalli Jennings from Andrews Texas had the round 1 lead with a 78. Kallie put together 10 pars and 1 birdie to give her a 4 shot lead over Caroline Zerbe. Zerbe from College Station shot an 82 to place her in 2nd after day 1. Loryn Munoz from San Antonio shot an 83 in round 1 to place her in 3rd.
DAY 2: Kalli Jennings has able to hold on to her overnight lead and followed it up with a 79 locking up 1st place for the weekend. Caroline Zerbe gave it her best in round 2, but fell just short with a two-day total of 162 and 2nd place. Loryn shot an 82 in round 2 to finish in 2rd place for the weekend.
GIRLS 11-14
DAY 1: Hailey Jones finished her day with a 74, the lowest score for all the girls.
DAY 2: Hailey shot a 73 in round 2 to have the overall low score for the girls and 1st place for the weekend.
